Standards Links
Probably the easiest information to get on the Internet is information about the Internet itself. This page lists the addresses of key standards bodies.
- World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
- The W3C is the single most important standards body for the Web. Their site is the first place to look when you need an RFC, report, recommendation, or documentation.
-
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
- The IETF manages and tracks many of the fundamental protocols on the Internet. Anyone can participate in the workgroups that shape the future of the Internet. This site is a good repository of RFCs.
-
- Internet Assigned Name Authority (IANA)
- The IANA site is as exciting as it name suggests. (If you find it hard to sleep, download some documents at random for bedtime reading.)
-
- InterNIC
- This is the home page for the InterNIC, the people responsible for maintaining domain name registrations.
-
- US Domain Name Service
- This site is the place to be if you want to register a .us domain name yourself. (Its easier to go through a service provider.)
