4D 6.5 Companion Code Descriptions

The 4D 6.5 Companion includes over 400 routines that you can reuse in your systems. Here are some highlights of what is included.

Reusable Modules
4D 6.5 includes dozens of new commands and features. The sample database includes modules that simplify working with a wide range of 4D features, including: arrays, BLOBs, errors, fields, forms, joins, help, named selections, animation, query optimization, the picture library, pointers, processes, splitters, tables, and URLs.

Picture Viewer Utility
4D 6.5 gives you control over pictures from several sources. This Picture Viewer utility lets you view PICT, cicn, and Picture Library images on Mac OS and Windows.

Database Parameter Editor Utility
4D 6.5 lets you read and write several internal database settings with new 4D commands. You can, for example, tune indexes, searches, sorts, and Web operations. The Database Parameter Editor utility provides an easy-to-use dialog that explains the parameters and lets you change them, even in a compiled application.

Resource Mover Utility
4D 6.5 lets you manipulate program resources directly. You can use this feature to create special effects, change how your applications works, or store program data outside the data file. The Resource Mover utility lets you copy, rename, renumber, and delete resources on Mac OS and Windows.

Constants Editor Utility
4D 6.5 supports custom constants in your code. Constants are a great feature because they allow you to define a value once and then use it throughout your code. If you need to update the value, change one constant and you’re done. 4D constants are defined through a Mac OS resource. The Constants Editor utility lets you add, copy, rename, renumber, and delete constants on Mac OS and Windows.

Cursor Viewer Utility
4D lets you change the current cursor temporarily but does not include an editor for viewing available cursors. The Cursor Viewer utility lets you display and test cursors on Mac OS and Windows.

HTML Resource Viewer Utility
The 4D 6.5 Web server uses HTML messages stored in a Mac OS resource called ’Html’. The HTML Resource Viewer lets you view 4D 6.5’s default HTML on Mac OS and Windows.
